How we measure
Four rules decide every value on this site. They are written down, versioned, and enforced in the database, not by convention.
Stars gained, velocity and trajectory are computed by versioned formulas from daily history we store ourselves. The same inputs give the same answer for every viewer. Nothing is ranked by taste.
A language model classifies news events, writes one summary per event and helps classify ambiguous repositories. It cannot set a trajectory, a rank or a count: every figure in a summary must exist in the sources it was given, and its database role cannot write a metric.
A registry that publishes no download count gets a null, not a zero. A 30-day change with one day of history reads "Collecting · from Nov 1". An empty cell beats a confident guess.
The GitHub API, eight package registries and a curated list of news sources. No scraping, no private data, no article bodies kept. Every number can be traced to the source that published it.
GitHub intelligence
Go beyond the star count. Activity, 7, 30 and 90-day change, velocity and trajectory, for every repository above 500 stars.
